Dr Bobby's Jazz Jam - Houston Jan 20, 2015
with the Jazz Doctors (Bobby Markoff piano - Rich Fishman drms), + Alisha Pettilo sax+ Robert Knetsch bass + Dr Rahul Pandit - Tabla
The marvelous Bobby Markoff, whose hospitality knows no bounds, put together a jam session with members of his band- Alisha and the Doctors...plus the inspiring addition of Dr Rahul Pandit on tabla.. we also got a chance to give my tune "Sukhi" its second airing..its getting better all the time !.
We started with a litany of standards driven by the very ballsy bluesy Texas tenor sound of Alisha, - Jody Grind, Green Dolphin Street , Days of Wine & Roses, Out of Nowhere, You Don't know what love is, How Insensitive, There will Never be Another You etc, and then with Rahul on tabla found tunes to work on such as After You've gone, Nardis, Little Sunflower, Softly as In a Morning sunrise, something that turned into Gypsy Queen (Santana via Gabor Szabo) and Sukhi
What a night that was ! - Thanks Dr Dave for lending me the Gibson Barney Kessel from his stupendous 300 guitar collection !
